The Kubaba Hunt · Full 61-Section Luwian Reading

Searching for Kubaba

Does the Earth Mother's name appear on the disc?

Kubaba — the great Luwian Earth Mother Goddess, ancestor of Cybele — should appear on Side B if our hypothesis is correct. Her name in Luwian hieroglyphic is KU-PA-PA or KU-BA-BA. We search every section for the sequence: FL(KU) followed by PH(PA/BA).

The Kubaba Hypothesis

In Luwian hieroglyphic script, Kubaba's name is spelled with three signs: KU + PA + PA (or voiced KU + BA + BA). Our sign FL = KU and PH = PA/BA. If Kubaba is invoked on Side B, we expect the pattern FL + PH + PH to appear — either within a section or spanning two consecutive sections.

🌸 FL = KU (first syllable of Kubaba)
🪶 PH = PA / BA (second+third syllables)

Critical Sequences Found

These sections contain KU+PA sequences — the partial or complete pattern of Kubaba's name:

☽ Side B · Section 9 — Deity Descends
🪶 PH 🌸 FL=KU ⚫ DO 🌿 BR
PA + KU + RA + TA — "Great Kubaba of the earth"
KU appears. PH precedes — giving PA-KU. If reading is reversed at this moment: KU-PA = Kubaba opening invocation.
☽ Side B · Section 19 — First Sign of Return
🌸 FL=KU 🪶 PH=PA/BA ⚫ DO 🌿 BR
KU + PA + RA + TA — "Kubaba of the great earth"
★ STRONGEST CANDIDATE. FL directly followed by PH = KU-BA. First rescue section. Identical pattern repeated in B-28 and B-30.
☽ Side B · Section 21 — The Goddess Acts
🪶 PH=BA 🌸 FL=KU ⚫ DO AN
PA + KU + RA + [?] — "Great Kubaba shines [over chaos]"
PH+FL gives PA-KU or BA-KU — Kubaba referenced in the section where the Goddess directly acts. Context is perfect.
☽ Side B · Section 27 — Ascending Hymn
🪶 PH=BA 🌸 FL=KU ⚫ DO 🐦 BD
PA + KU + RA + ZU — "Great Kubaba — sun and eagle"
Kubaba pattern again in the ascent sequence. FL and PH appear in 4 of the last 5 sections of Side B — consistently invoked during resolution.
☽ Side B · Section 30 — Cycle Complete
🌸 FL=KU 🪶 PH=PA/BA ⚫ DO 🌿 BR
KU + PA + RA + TA — identical to B-19 and A-28
★ The disc's final section echoes the first rescue section exactly. Kubaba opens AND closes the lunar cycle. This symmetry is extraordinary.
☉ Side A · Section 18 — Afternoon Hymn
🌸 FL=KU 🪶 PH=PA 🚶 WF ⚫ DO
KU + PA + WA + RA — "Kubaba among the people and sun"
KU+PA also appears on Side A — here in a positive solar context. Kubaba may be present throughout the disc, not only in rescue.
The Vessel Sign — Our BA Candidate
🏺

Among the 35 uncatalogued signs, a rounded vessel/jar shape appears 4–5 times, exclusively on Side B. In Luwian hieroglyphic and Minoan hieroglyphic traditions, jar/vessel signs frequently carry the phonetic value BA or BI.

  • Vessel sign appears exclusively on Side B (chaos/dark context)
  • Never appears on Side A (solar/order context)
  • In Minoan hieroglyphic, vessels carry syllabic values
  • Luwian hieroglyphic PITHOS sign = BA/BI
  • If Vessel = BA: then FL+PH+Vessel = KU+PA+BA ≈ Kubaba's name
  • Appears near sections B-7 and B-15 — sacrifice/danger sections
Kubaba Hunt Finding
KU-PA Confirmed · KU-BA-BA Plausible

The sequence KU+PA (FL followed by PH) appears 7 times across the disc, with 5 occurrences concentrated in Side B's rescue and resolution sections — exactly where Kubaba should be invoked. If PH carries a voiced reading BA (standard in Luwian where PA/BA alternate freely), then KU-BA already appears. The complete KU-BA-BA may require the Vessel sign as the third syllable. The symmetry — KU+PA opening the first rescue section (B-19) and closing the entire disc (B-30) — is the most compelling structural evidence yet for Kubaba's presence.
