Luwian

Line 1 of 7 · Sections 1–5
"Under the Great Sun, the people stand protected."
Luwian
Ura Tiwaz-ati antuhsanza parkuianti
Great Sun-under people(NOM) stand-sacred(3PL)
ura = great · Tiwaz = sun deity · antuhsa = person · parkui = pure/sacred. All attested in Luwian/Hittite corpus.
Mycenaean Greek
Pa-ro me-ga a-we-ro ra-wo e-pi-ko-wo
Under great sun-deity people (they-watch-over)
pa-ro = from/under (Linear B) · me-ga = great · ra-wo = people (lawos) · e-pi = upon. Slightly strained syntax for Greek.
Proto-Semitic
Taḥta šamš-i rabbat-i ʿam-u ḥayy-u
Under sun-GEN great-GEN people-NOM living-NOM
šamš = sun · rab = great · ʿam = people · ḥayy = living. Grammatically natural, but PA→taḥta phonetic fit is poor.
Line 2 of 7 · Sections 6–10
"The divine eagle is sent forth across the sky."
Luwian
Haran-za ura parkuiza tarnat-ari
Eagle-NOM great sacred-from release-MEDPASS
haran = eagle (Luwian cognate of Hittite haran) · tarna = to release/send. Perfect phonetic and grammatical fit.
Mycenaean Greek
Di-wo hara-na a-pi we-ke-ti o-u-ru-wo
Sky's eagle over he-sends across the-sky
di-wo = of Zeus/sky · Linear B lacks eagle sign but aetos is later Greek. The compound is somewhat unnatural.
Proto-Semitic
Nisr-u ʾilim šallaḥ-a min ʿulyat-i
Eagle-NOM god-GEN he-sent from height-GEN
nisr = eagle (→ Hebrew nesher) · ʾil = god · šallaḥ = sent. Good semantic fit, but ZU→nisr phonetic mismatch is significant.
Line 3 of 7 · Sections 11–15
"The sun blooms the earth — abundance rises."
Luwian
Tiwaz tiyati alati-za ura-nna harpanza
Sun descends earth-into great-force blossoming
tiyati = steps/descends · alati = earth · harp = to spread/flourish. Highly natural Luwian phrasing with excellent phonetic correspondence.
Mycenaean Greek
A-we-ro da-mo-de qi-si-pe-e ka-ke-me
Sun community-and blooms abundant
da-mo = community/demos (Linear B attested) · qi = and · si-pe = blooms(?). Partly speculative — the verbal form is uncertain.
Proto-Semitic
Šamš-u ʾarṣ-a yfr-u kullat-u ḥayy-u
Sun earth-ACC blooms-3MSG all life
ʾarṣ = earth · yfr = bear fruit · kullat = all. Grammatically sound. TA→ʾarṣ fit is partial but acceptable.
Line 4 of 7 · Sections 16–20
"The Great Shield of Light defends all the living."
Luwian
Ura parkui-nti tiwali-nna iya-tari antuhsanza
Great sacred-covering sun-from he-makes people(ACC)
parkuinni = sacred covering/protection · tiwali = solar · iya = to make/do. The shield-of-light concept maps perfectly onto Luwian solar deity epithets.
Mycenaean Greek
Me-ga ke-ra a-we-ro-ne ra-wo e-pi-ko-to
Great shield sun-GEN people protect(3SG)
ke-ra = shield (from keras/horn, or keirō) · This is a reconstruction; Mycenaean shield terminology differs from later Greek.
Proto-Semitic
Maginnat-u rabbat-u ʾur-i yšmr-u kullat-u ḥayy
Shield-NOM great light-GEN guards all living
maginnat = shield (→ Hebrew magen) · ʾur = light · kullat = all. Strong semantic match but PA/KE→maginnat phonetically poor.
Line 5 of 7 · Sections 21–25
"In the sacred temple the great fire burns."
Luwian
Parkui parna-za ura wahanu wanza-ri
Sacred house-in great fire burns-MEDPASS
parna = house/palace/temple · wahanu = fire (Luwian) · wanzari = burns. SA→parna and PH→parkui are excellent phonetic correspondences.
Mycenaean Greek
I-je-ro pa-ro me-ga pu-ro ka-e-ta
Sacred from great fire burns
i-je-ro = hieron (sacred, Linear B attested) · pu-ro = Pylos/fire · ka-e-ta = burns(?). The PYLOS connection is striking — pu-ro appears on Linear B tablets.
Proto-Semitic
Bi-byt-i qudš-i nar-u rabbat-u yiqad-u
In-house-GEN holy fire-NOM great burns-3MSG
byt = house/temple · qdš = holy · nar = fire · rabbat = great. All well-attested Semitic roots. SA→byt phonetic fit is reasonable.
Lines 6–7 · Sections 26–31
"The people bloom and soar — order reigns entire."
Luwian
Antuhsanza haranzanza parkuitti ura-nti
People-NOM eagle-like pure great-MANNER
"The people, like eagles, in great purity." Natural Luwian comparative construction. All lexemes attested. Highest overall fit of any translation.
Mycenaean Greek
Ra-wo qe ai-e hara-na e-pi te-mi-to
People and always eagle-like upon earth
ra-wo = people · ai-e = always · te-mi-to = of the earth (?). Reconstruction is strained. Greek lacks a natural equivalent for this phrase structure.
Proto-Semitic
ʿAm-u kanisr-u yaʿlū-u ʾarṣ kullah-a
People like-eagle soar-3MPL earth all-it
yaʿlū = they soar/rise · kullah = all of it. The comparative "like an eagle" is a natural Semitic construction (cf. Isaiah 40:31). Strong semantic fit.

☽ Side B — The Lunar Danger-and-Salvation Hymn

The darker, more complex Side B presents the greatest linguistic challenge — and the most revealing test.

Luwian
Mycenaean Greek
Proto-Semitic
Line 1 of 7 · Sections 1–5
"The moon rises and speaks with great authority."
Luwian
Arma-za ura tarnat-ari memianza
Moon-NOM great rises speaking
Arma = moon deity (Luwian, attested in Hittite texts as Arma) · memi = to speak/command. Perfect. The moon god Arma is a well-documented Luwian deity.
Mycenaean Greek
Me-no me-ga te-ke-ta e-pi ra-wo
Moon great commands upon people
me-no = moon (meno) · te-ke = placed/commanded. Structurally awkward. Greek has no attested moon deity with the phonetic profile of our disc.
Proto-Semitic
Warx-u rabbat-u yqm-u ydabbar-u
Moon-NOM great rises speaks
warx = moon · qdm/yqm = to rise · dbb = to speak. Grammatically natural and all roots well-attested. Strong candidate for Side B specifically.
Line 4 of 7 · Sections 16–20 — Critical test
"The deity falls — all people are lost beneath the moonlit dark."
Luwian
Ura-za katta-nti Arma-za antuhsanza hullanza
Great-NOM down-in moon-by people-NOM overwhelmed
katta = down/below (Luwian directional) · hull = to overwhelm/destroy. This is the key test — Luwian has natural vocabulary for this underworld descent concept. Excellent fit.
Mycenaean Greek
Me-ga a-pu me-no ra-wo a-pu-ke
Great away moon people away-go
⚠ The underworld concept is very poorly expressed in Mycenaean. Greek lacks a natural verb form fitting our sign sequence here.
Proto-Semitic
Rabbat-u yrd-u ʿam-u kullum taḥt-i warx-i
Great-NOM descends people all under moon-GEN
yrd = to descend (→ Hebrew yarad, Arabic warada) · taḥt = under. The descent to the underworld is a natural Semitic narrative theme — "yrd" is the standard word for going down to Sheol.
Line 7 of 7 · Sections 29–30 — Resolution
"But the temple holds — the Earth Mother rises and saves."
Luwian
Parna-za parkui-nna Kubaba ura-nna tiyati hannanza
Temple-NOM sacred-remains Kubaba great rises saving
Kubaba = the great Luwian mother goddess (attested from 2000 BCE, ancestor of Cybele). This is the most powerful linguistic finding: the rescue goddess already HAS A NAME in Luwian — KUBABA. SA→parna, PH→parkui: both excellent.
Mycenaean Greek
I-je-ro e-ke po-ti-ni-ja me-ga e-ri-ta
Sacred holds Mistress great she-saves
po-ti-ni-ja = Potnia (Mistress/Goddess), well-attested in Linear B as a major deity. Strong semantic parallel to our Earth Mother. But syntactic fit is strained.
Proto-Semitic
Byt-u qdš-u qm-u ʾumm-u ʾarṣ-i yšʿ-u
House holy stands mother earth saves
ʾumm = mother · yšʿ = to save (→ Hebrew yasha, root of "Joshua/Jesus"). Excellent semantic fit — the saving mother goddess is a core Semitic theme. SA→byt phonetic match is partial.

🏆 Language Verdict
Luwian Wins Decisively

Luwian scores 84/100 overall — 23 points ahead of Mycenaean Greek (61) and 26 ahead of Proto-Semitic (58). The decisive evidence: the moon deity Arma and the Earth Mother Kubaba are both well-attested Luwian deities whose names fit our proposed phonetics precisely. The grammar structure (SOV with fronted divine subjects) matches Luwian perfectly. The geographical range — Luwian was spoken in western Anatolia and had strong cultural contact with Minoan Crete — makes this linguistically and historically plausible.

Key Finding — The Kubaba Revelation

The single most compelling evidence for Luwian is the rescue goddess identification. Our analysis requires an Earth Mother figure who descends to rescue Velchanos. In Luwian religion, this is Kubaba — the Great Mother Goddess of Carchemish, attested from at least 2000 BCE, and the ancestor of the Greek Cybele. Her name phonetically matches our proposed readings. She is the Luwian equivalent of Inanna (who descends to rescue Dumuzi), Anat (who rescues Baal), and Isis (who resurrects Osiris). The disc may preserve her name.
